Send and Receive HE mail with Gmail

This is a walkthrough for using HE email through the Gmail interface. If the walkthrough doesn't work. Ask HE support to be moved to a server with the latest software.

Accounts and Import Settings

Log into your Gmail account.

Select "settings" from the gear menu.
Go to the "Accounts and Import" settings tab.
Click "Add a mail account".
Enter your HE email address and press the next button.
Select POP3 and press the next button.
Enter the full email address as the username. Enter the mailbox password. Set the POP server to the *.he.net servername (or the domain name if it provides SSL/TLS). Change the port to 995. Check "always use a secure connection (SSL) when retrieving mail". Click "Add Acount".
Choose "Leave a copy of retrieved message on the server" otherwise emails will be deleted from HE's servers.
Select "yes" to set up sending from the Gmail interface.
Select "treat as an alias" and press next step.
Set the SMTP server to the same servername as the POP server. Choose port 587. Enter the full email address as the username. Enter the mailbox password. Select "Secured connection using TLS". Click add account.
Check the HE email address for a verification email from Gmail. Click the verification link inside the email. Click the "Confirm" button on the page that opens.

That is it. You should now be able to send and receive HE mail with the Gmail interface.
